Week 4 Rewind

Game of the Week: Florida Southern College Mocs (D2) @ University of Central Florida Knights (D2)

The Florida Southern College Mocs’ game against the University of Central Florida Knights ended in a 4-4 tie.

Despite a pair of shorthanded goals by Michael Woll in the second period for the Mocs, it wasn’t enough to give them the edge over the Knights. The Knights had goals from Roberts Viguls, Colin Jackson, and Joseph Dray in the first period, while Max Weinstock scored a powerplay goal in the second.

Despite ending in a 4-4 tie, UCF outshot Florida Southern by a whopping tally of 71-40.

The Mocs continue their three-game road trip with back-to-back matchups against Lynn University on Oct. 5 and 6 at Palm Beach Skate Zone in Lake Worth Corridor, Florida.

University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (D3) @ Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders (D2)

It was undoubtedly a barnburner in back-to-back home games for the Blue Raiders against the Blazers, as they won 25-2 in the first game and 18-1 in the second. The wins improved MTSU to 4-1-0 on the season.

Donovan Yesnach managed back-to-back hat tricks in both games for MTSU. Justin Beachler notched six points (three goals, three assists) in two games, giving him seven points for the season.

While it wasn’t the best start to the season for the Blazers, they still have plenty of games left to get back on track. They continue their four-game road trip when they head to Clarksville to take on Austin Peay State University.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (D2) @ Auburn University Tigers (D1)

Friday’s matchup between Georgia Tech and Auburn saw the Tigers take home a 6-3 win. Sam Catalano registered a hat trick in the victory, with one goal in the first and two in the third.

Though the Yellow Jackets mounted somewhat of a comeback, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers. Georgia Tech drops to 0-4-1 to start the season. Despite the loss, they outshot Auburn University 47-43.

Georgia Tech looks to snap their five-game skid as they return home from their road trip to face Kennesaw State University.

Austin Peay State University Governors (D3) @ University of Tennessee Ice Vols (D3)

The University of Tennessee started the season dominantly with a 16-1 win and a 10-0 shutout win over Austin Peay. The Ice Vols improved to 2-0-0 for the season.

William Hurlburt put on a show for the Ice Vols, notching four goals in his second game with the team. The 18-year-old is starting the season strong with seven points (five goals, two assists) in the two games.

The Ice Vols outshot the Governors 62-15. Austin Peay continues their road trip to Olive Branch, Mississippi, to take on the Ole Miss Rebels on Oct. 11-12.

University of Georgia Ice Dawgs (D1) @ University of Alabama Frozen Tide (D1)

After a 3-3 tie from the first game, the Ice Dawgs held on for a 3-2 win in the second game. In the first, Declan Conway, Jake Green, and Graham Baird scored for Georgia, while Parker King had a two-goal game, and Jacob Best scored for Alabama.

The Ice Dawgs had the edge in shots on goal in the first game, 39-37.

Jack Gannon, Alex Laracy, and Truman Haugen lit the lamp for Georgia in the second game, while Max Savaloja and Jesse Dickinson scored for Alabama. Georgia once again outshot Alabama, 39-32.

Georgia looks to build on their 3-0-2 start to the season as they return home to host Auburn University on Oct. 4 and again on Oct. 6.
