With multiple postseason positions and playoff seeding on the line, three players stood out from the pack in Week 19. Let’s find out who our three stars of the week are.
1st Star: Liam Baxter, Vanderbilt University (M3): 4 Goals, 2 Assists, 6 Points in 2 Games Played
The Commodores are chasing a playoff position with only one ranking left before the playoff seeds are locked in. Liam Baxter made the difference for the Commodores as they took on the University of Tennessee Ice Vols (M3).
In the first game of the series, Baxter had his name attached to three of the five goals for the Commodores, assisting on two before scoring the final goal of the game for Vanderbilt.
Baxter’s scoring touch rolled into game two, where he scored three goals in a row for Vandy to end the game in the final game before the playoffs for the Commodores.
2nd Star: Jonathan Shaw, Kennesaw State University (M3): 2 Goals, 3 Assists, 5 Points in 2 Games Played
Kennesaw State University played the spoiler this weekend with a series sweep of South Carolina M3. Jonathan Shaw has stepped up his game at the right time, which likely secured a trip to the CHS Playoffs for the Owls.
In the first game, Shaw scored a goal and tallied an assist from the blueline against the former National Champs in a 5-1 win. He continued to find his way onto the scoresheet in game two, recording another goal and adding two helpers in a 5-2 win for the Owls.
Jonathan Shaw and the Owls are finding their groove at the right time, as they likely secured their playoff bid with the sweep this weekend!
3rd Star: Nicholas Bowers, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ACDC): 3 Goals, 2 Assists, 5 Points in 2 Games Played
With two teams battling over the weekend for the third seed in the ACDC playoffs, Nicholas Bowers stepped up for the Ice Eagles to steal the third seed from Florida Tech.
Bowers recorded a point on four of the seven Ice Eagles' goals in the game of the week. He put two goals in the back of the net, while sharing the scoring touch with two assists in the 7-4 win.
In the second game, Bowers added his third goal of the series, helping the Ice Eagles close out the season with a 4-1 win, and secured a matchup with the Florida State Seminoles in the playoffs.
Congratulations to Liam Baxter, Jonathan Shaw and Nic Bowers for earning honors as College Hockey South’s Three Stars of Week 19!
