The 2024-25 season is well underway, and the eighth week proved how significantly many programs have grown thus far. To serve as a microcosm of that growth, three programs put up at least nine goals per game this weekend, led by this week’s three stars.
1st Star: (C) Tyler Casey - University of Georgia (D3): 6 goals, 3 assists, 9 points in 2 games
In utterly dominant fashion, the Georgia Bulldogs outscored the Alabama Birmingham Blazers 33-0 across two contests and outshot the Blazers 156-12.
A significant margin, to say the least!
Center Tyler Casey spearheaded his team’s remarkable victories, collecting two goals and two assists in the 20-0 win last Friday, and four goals and one assist in the 13-0 win on Saturday. The nine-point showing solidified Casey’s role as a potent offensive force for the Bulldogs, as he leads his team in points with 20 (14G, 6A) in just eight games this season.
2nd Star: (C) Steven Rossi - Florida Institute of Technology (D3): 3 goals, 3 assists, 6 points in 1 game
In another high-scoring affair, the Florida Tech Panthers pummeled the North Florida Ospreys on Saturday night, 15-4.
Led by centerman Steven Rossi, who recorded six points (3G, 3A) in the contest, the Panthers bookended the scoring in the first period to establish a 6-2 lead in the opening 20 minutes. Florida Tech came out firing in the middle frame, netting five more goals in the first half of the period and two more in the latter half to establish a 13-4 lead before the final 20.
Rossi collected the only two goals in the third period to punctuate his team’s 15-4 win. With the six additional points, the centerman now has 11 in seven games and is tied with George Boos for the second-most points for the Panthers, trailing only Derek Morgia (19).
3rd Star: (RW) Will Marshall - Florida Southern College (D2): 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points in 2 games
The 2023-24 Division 3 Player of the Year strikes again.
Florida Southern’s Will Marshall returns as College Hockey South’s third star of the week for the second time this season, collecting eight points (4G, 4A) in his team’s 14-2 and 9-7 losses to the South Florida Bulls this weekend.
In the 14-2 loss, Marshall scored both goals for his team. His other six points (2G, 4A) came the following day, as the right-winger scored a point on all his team’s goals except one.
Congratulations to Tyler, Steven, and Will for being named our 3 Stars of the Week!
