Week 7 | 3 Stars of the Week

There was no shortage of top-flite performances in week 7 of the College Hockey South season, but these three players stood out amongst the rest.

1st Star - (C) Max Savaloja, University of Alabama: 5 Goals, 4 Assists, 9 Points in 2 Games

The 2023-2024 Division 1 Most Valuable Player proved exactly why he is so valuable to Alabama against Auburn this past weekend, notching nine points in the two-game series.

The Frozen Tide had gone over a month without a win before the sensational Savaloja showing in the Iron Cup series.

On Friday night, Savaloja kicked off the weekend with a four-goal and two-assist outing in Alabama’s chaotic 10-6 over Auburn. Though not as sparkling, Max followed up the six-point game with a goal and two assists on Saturday.

The nine-point outburst this weekend brings Savaloja’s season totals to eight goals and eleven assists in ten games.

2nd Star - (LW) Garrett Albers, University of South Carolina: 4 Goals, 3 Assists, 7 Points in 2 Games

Albers and the Gamecocks have been flying to start the season, and the momentum continued through their weekend sweep of Florida.

South Carolina has won ten of their first eleven contests, primarily due to their potent offense. The Gamecocks roster boasts nine players playing at a point-per-game pace, including Garrett Albers, our second star of the week.

Albers collected back-to-back multi-point games against Florida to keep the ball rolling for South Carolina. Garrett scored two goals in each of the games and added three assists.

The Gamecocks steamrolled the Gators for sixteen goals in two games, with Albers factoring in on nearly half.

3rd Star - (D) Christian Sousa, Kennesaw State University: 1 Goal, 6 Assists, 7 Points in 2 Games

The lone defenseman in our Stars of the Week comes from Kennesaw State University, Christian Sousa.

Sousa led the Owls to a dominant sweep of Ole Miss, in which Kennesaw State outscored its opponent 16-5 in two games. Sousa carried the mail for the Owls in game one, tallying four points to lead all skaters.

In Kennesaw State’s second victory, Sousa collected three assists to push his impressive weekend total to seven points. Though in a small sample size, Souza leads Kennesaw State in scoring with nine points in four games. The next closest scorer has six points.

Congratulations to Max, Garrett, and Christian for being named our 3 Stars of the Week!
