Week 14 | 3 Stars of The Week

Kelly Kaelblein

1st Star: (C) Jarrett Ireland - University of North Florida (D3): 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points in 1 game

The North Florida Ospreys defeated the South Florida Bulls in a high-scoring affair this weekend, 9-8. Spearheaded by the efforts of North Florida’s Jarrett Ireland — who bookended the contest’s scoresheet — who collected eight points (4G, 4A) in the win, recording a point on eight of the Ospreay’s nine goals.

Ireland netted his first of the night just 55 seconds into the matchup. The Bulls equalized shortly after, but Ireland picked up a power-play goal three minutes later and an assist on Cayden Conover’s tally shortly after to reinstate the Ospreys’ lead, 3-2, entering the second period.

In the second period, the center picked up his fourth point in the form of an assist on Jeremy Diaz’s eighth goal of the season. The Bulls crawled back within one with less than a minute to go in the middle frame.

Ireland netted the first of the third period’s 10 goals to improve the Ospreys’ lead to 5-3. As the teams continued trading goals to close the period, Ireland collected another two assists and a goal to propel North Florida to its eventual 9-8 win.

With his impressive performance in tow, the center leads his team with 21 points in just seven games this season.

2nd Star: (D) Abby Lin - Auburn University (W): 5 goals, 4 assists, 9 points in 2 games

The Auburn Tigers dominantly defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles, walking away with matching 11-0 wins on Friday and Saturday. Auburn’s Abby Lin led the charge for the Tigers victories, collecting nine points (5G, 4A) across the two contests.

In a more-than-convincing performance, the Tigers outscored the Eagles 22-0 and outshot them 82-5 last weekend. Lin opened the scoring in the first game, netting her first of three goals within the opening six minutes of the matchup. In addition to Lin’s two goals and lone assist in the first, Tigers Rachel Guarino, Gabriella Donato, and Ren Harris also collected at least one goal in the opening 20 minutes, skating off the ice with a 6-0 lead.

Though neither team found the back of the net in the middle frame, the Tigers were far from finished; Auburn went on to tally another five goals in the final period. Lin recorded one point on four of five of the Tigers’ third-period scores for a total of seven points (3G, 4A) in their first installment of the weekend.

The following day told a similar story: Lin collected two goals in the first period as Auburn soared past Georgia Southern for the second time with an identical 11-0 win.

Following her impressive performance, Lin has 18 points (11G, 7A) in 11 games this season, trailing only Donato for the most on her roster.

3rd Star: (F) Hunter Litman - Florida Atlantic University (D2): 7 goals, 1 assist, 8 points in 2 games

The Florida Atlantic Owls swept the Florida Southern Moccasins in another high-scoring series, 8-5 and 11-3. This weekend, Florida Atlantic forward Hunter Litman tallied eight points — seven goals and one assist — to help his team pick up four points.

Litman netted the first goal in Friday’s matchup, followed closely by his teammate, Brady Baehser, to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the Mocs responded quickly, tallying two goals to deadlock the score. The teams continued trading pairs of goals until the latter half of the third when Litman collected another assist on the game-winner and cushioned the Owls’ lead with another goal of his own, solidifying Florida Atlantic’s 8-5 win.

The following day, Litman collected five of Florida Atlantic’s 11 total goals: he netted one of three goals in the first, two of his team’s five in the second, and two more in the third, propelling the Owls toward their dominant 11-3 victory.

With his eight-point performance last weekend, Litman has recorded 20 points (10G, 10A) in 13 games this season.
