Another week has come and gone in the 2024-25 College Hockey South season, and Week 11 showed standout performances from these three stars.
1st Star: Claire Carson, University of Alabama (Women’s): 7 Goals, 5 Assists, 12 Points in 3 Games Played
Claire Carson earns our top star of the week after an electrifying weekend during the Columbus Classic (initially scheduled in September but changed to Nov. 15 due to Hurricane Helene).
In Alabama’s first game against the University of Miami, Carson tallied a hat trick and added three assists for a six-point performance in the Frozen Tide’s 17-4 victory. Despite Alabama falling short 4-2 to the University of Tampa Spartans in their second matchup, Carson contributed a goal and assist.
Carson capped off the weekend with another hat trick in a 5-1 win over the South Florida Ice Bulls.
Carson leads the College Hockey South Women’s Division with 36 points (23 goals, 13 assists) in 11 games this season, solidifying herself as a top player to watch.
2nd Star: Megan Malolepszy, University of Miami (Women’s): 6 Goals, 5 Assists, 11 Points in 3 Games Played
Megan Malolepszy earns the second star of the week for her astounding efforts despite the Miami Hurricanes’ early season struggles.
Malolepszy’s best game came on Nov. 16 during Miami’s 7-6 win over Auburn at the Columbus Classic, where she netted a hat trick. With Miami’s bench short due to travel issues, Malolepszy played extended shifts that were highly taxing. However, her skating was breathtaking despite the jaw-dropping amount of ice time.
She currently leads Miami in goals (11), assists (7), and points (18) this season and sits sixth in the College Hockey South Women’s Division in scoring.
3rd Star: Rocco Bruno, Florida Atlantic University (D2): 3.00 GAA, 0.923 SV%, 1 Win, 1 Goal in 1 Game Played
Rocco Bruno channeled his inner Filip Gustavsson as he scored a goalie goal in Florida Atlantic’s 6-3 win over the Tampa Spartans this past weekend.
With the Owls up 5-3, Bruno stopped the puck off of a dump in shot on net by Tampa, and instead of leaving it for one of his defensemen, he took a shot at the Spartan net. In a moment that Rocco will likely never forget, his shot made its way over everyone on the ice and into the net for his first collegiate goal.

Bruno’s stellar play has propelled the Owls to a 9-2-1 record this season. They currently sit in second place in the College Hockey South Division 2 South Division Standings. He is 4-2-0 with a 2.83 goals-against average (GAA) and a 0.898 save percentage (SV%), and has won four of his last five starts.
With back-to-back games against the University of Central Florida Knights to close out 2024, Bruno will look to continue his strong start to the season.
Congratulations to Claire, Megan, and Rocco for being named our Three Stars of the Week!
