College Hockey South Division Standings (Post Week 11)

Women’s Division

Week 11 saw considerable movement in the Women’s standings with the playing of the Columbus Classic.

The Tampa Lady Spartans took home their second straight Columbus Classic Championship and moved into third place. The Lady Spartans, a perfect 5-0-0 this season, trail first-place Alabama by four points despite beating the Frozen Tide in the Week 11 Game of the Week.

On Sunday, the Georgia Lady Ice Dawgs picked up a massive win over Miami, taking a one-point lead over the Hurricanes for the final playoff spot.

Division 1

No change in the standings in the Division 1 ranks, but Georgia created some breathing room between themselves and South Carolina.

The first-place Ice Dawgs hosted the Tennessee Ice Vols the night before the highly anticipated football game between the two schools. The Ice Dawgs knocked off the Ice Vols 4-1 to set the stage for a two-sport Georgia sweep over Tennessee.

With the win, Georgia’s point total increased to 18, four more than the next closest team (South Carolina).

Division 2

Middle Tennessee State dominated Vanderbilt in building a comfortable lead in the North Division. Georgia Tech buzzed into second place with a four-point weekend against Alabama-Huntsville.

While the North Division stays consistent, the South Division twists and turns week to week.

Florida Atlantic reclaimed second place in the South Division with two victories over the Tampa Spartans. The Lynn Fighting Knights scored three points in their weekend series with Embry-Riddle, putting them in third.

Florida Southern won big over Miami twice to jump over the Hurricanes and the Tampa Spartans in the standings. The Mocs are still outside of the playoff picture, but this series victory could turn the balance of the South Division.

Division 3

A new team joined the playoff fray in the North Division, as College Hockey South newcomer Austin Peay State’s slide down the standings continued in Week 11.

After this weekend, the Kennesaw State Owls pulled into a tie with Austin Peay, but the Owls hold the tiebreaker for the final playoff spot. Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia held their top four spots.

In a matchup of 1 versus 2, the Florida Atlantic Owls bullied Florida Tech twice to strengthen their grip on the top spot in the South Division. Florida State capitalized on Florida Tech’s pointless weekend, and the Seminoles took over second place.
