Rivalry week has come and gone in College Hockey South, and these matchups delivered for CHS fans. From age-old bouts to new tensions, these weekend matchups brought moments that could shape the rest of the season for these teams.

Game of the Week: Florida Atlantic (M3) at Lynn (M3)

In Boca Raton, cross-town rivals Lynn University and Florida Atlantic renewed their rivalry in a high-scoring matchup over the weekend. The Owls opened up scoring early in the 1st to go up 1-0, but the fighting knights responded and tied it up at 1. However, FAU’s Drew Renzi found the back of the net 30 seconds later to take the lead back for Florida Atlantic for the majority of the first, until the final moments of the period, when Lynn evened out the score at 2.

In the 2nd, Lynn’s offense exploded for four unanswered goals. Cole Ladas was able to grab his second of the night, and Ian Uram, who ended Lynn’s scoring run with the last of the second period.

A late 3rd-period goal for FAU was not enough, as Lynn went on to win 6-3, their first Battle of Boca win in eight games. With this win, Lynn moves slightly up in the CHS M3 standings and grabs their first win since September 19th.

Tampa (M3) vs USF (M3)

Up north in Tampa, the Ice Bulls pulled out the brooms as they got the sweep over the Tampa Spartans in the Battle of Tampa series. USF outscored Tampa 15-7 over the two games and extended its win streak to three.

In Game 2, USF put up nine goals from four different goal scorers. Max Mudge and Grant Dietz both left the ice with hat tricks to boost the high-flying offense of South Florida. Tampa’s Trace Cowart grabbed back-to-back goals in the second for the Spartans, but USF’s defense locked down, allowing only two goals in the third to get the win.

South Florida now leads CHS M3 with 11 conference wins after a strong weekend performance.

Embry-Riddle (M3) at Miami (M3)

A tie and a get-back game down in the 305 as Embry-Riddle and Miami squared off in a two-game series. Both teams remained tight throughout both games and constantly responded to each other's offenses.

Game 1 ended in a rare 4-4 tie. It was 3-3 headed into the third period, but ERAU’s Logan Jackson brought the Eagles ahead by one within the first minutes of the third. Embry-Riddle almost had the win until Miami, with less than 15 seconds left, found the back of the net. Max Mencimer grabbed Miami’s fourth goal of the night and ended game one in a tie.

Game 2 was all ‘Canes as Miami got its first conference win since September. Ryker Ferry led the way with two assists and ended his weekend with seven points. Mencimer also grabbed his second goal of the weekend. Miami went on to a 5-3 win.

Florida State (Women’s) vs Florida (Women’s)

History was made in women's collegiate hockey over the weekend as Florida State and Florida etched a new chapter in their rivalry with their women's teams facing off for the first time, ending with the Gators grabbing the first win in the rivalry series 10-1.

Leading the way for Florida was Marrissa Bohilla with a hat trick and four assists.

Behind her was Beth McArthur with a hat trick and an assist as well. Four other goal scorers joined the sheet. Goaltender Oliva Purk ended her night with 15 saves and one goal allowed as well.

The Gators grabbed their first win of the season against the Seminoles and will see them again in a two-game homestand this upcoming weekend.
