Emotions will be running high across the conference as Rivalry Week takes center stage in College Hockey South. Pride, standings, and bragging rights are all on the line in a packed weekend slate featuring some of CHS’s most heated rivalries.
Game of the Week: Florida Atlantic (M3) at Lynn (M3)
Kicking it off in South Florida, Florida Atlantic and Lynn hit the ice in the Battle for Boca. Both the Owls and the Fighting Knights currently sit at four CHS points and look to move up in division standings.
FAU heads into the matchup after a packed weekend; the Owls will look to take down their cross-town rival after a two-game series against Miami earlier in the week. FAU is coming off a 1-1 performance at College Hockey South’s "Battle at the Beach” tournament and looks to bounce back with a crucial win against the Fighting Knights.
Lynn also sits in CHS standings with four points and has yet to win a game this semester since a 4-3 overtime win against Miami back in September. Lynn looks to use the momentum of the rivalry to get back into the win column and rise in the CHS standings.
Sunday, Nov. 2 – 7:00 PM EST (Palm Beach Skate Zone)
Tampa (M3) vs USF (M3)
Both Tampa and USF look to continue their strong starts in CHS play.
Tampa heads into rivalry weekend grinning, having won the recent Battle at the Beach for the first time. The Spartans faced fellow Sunshine State teams in Lynn and ERAU and won both their matchups. Tampa currently sits at 2nd in CHS standings at 9-1 and 18 conference points.
USF, on the other hand, looks to continue its win streak after a win against M3 Clemson this past weekend. The Bulls need this win against their rival to keep their crown in the M3 standings clean.
South Florida currently has the most CHS points in M3, at 19. Tampa’s high-powered offense will look to start hot, while the Bulls hope to counter with depth and their physical play style.
Friday, Oct. 31: USF (M3) at Tampa (M3) – 7:15 PM EST (Clearwater Ice Arena)
Saturday, Nov. 1: Tampa (M3) at USF (M3) – 7:30 PM EST (Advent Health Center Ice)
Embry-Riddle (M3) at Miami (M3)
The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles make the trip south to face the University of Miami Hurricanes in what promises to be an interesting series. ERAU currently sits at 6-6 overall, 6 points, and 1-1 at Battle on the Beach. The Ice Eagles look to continue their impressive season with two road games against Miami.
For the Hurricanes, it has been a rocky start to their season, with their last conference win being against Lynn back in September. Miami also currently holds six CHS points and looks to even out its conference record this season against a South Florida rival.
Saturday, Nov. 1 – 8:00 PM EST (Kendall Ice Arena)
Sunday, Nov. 2 – 1:00 PM EST (Kendall Ice Arena)
Florida State (Women’s) vs Florida (Women’s)
Rounding out CHS Rivalry Week is the first-ever College Hockey South meeting between Florida State and Florida. Both teams will look to get their CHS win in program history against their Sunshine State counterpart.
Florida opened its season with back-to-back losses to Tampa and USF, and Florida State went 0-2 in its series against Tampa, getting outscored 1-19 over the weekend in September. A win for either of these teams gets them their first points in the CHS division standings as well.
Sunday, Nov. 2 – 11:15 AM EST (Community First Igloo)
