Welcome to 2026 and the first batch of College Hockey South’s 3 Stars of the Week! Teams hit the ice for their first pieces of action in the New Year, and some delivered with stellar performances to be highlighted in this week's edition.
1st Star - BJ Riccardi, Florida Gulf Coast University (M3): 2-0-0, 0.50 GAA, 0.981% Save Percentage, 1 Shutout in 2 Games Played
FGCU started its 2026 season with a doubleheader against Saint Vincent University, going 2-0 on the series. The Eagles’ successes were led by goaltender BJ Riccardi.
Riccardi went for the goose egg against SVU with a 1-0 victory on Friday, followed by another strong performance on Saturday with a 3-1 win. He ended his weekend with a 0.981 SV% and a 0.50 goals against average.
Florida Gulf Coast currently sits with a 15-8-0-0 overall record. They remain at home to take on Akron this upcoming weekend.
2nd Star - Jake Murphy, Florida Atlantic University (M2): 1 Goal, 8 Assists, 9 Points in 2 Games Played
Heading to M2, Florida Atlantic continues to roll in 2026, extending its win streak to six games.
FAU comes off a 2-0 sweep against Miami (M3), with Jake Murphy leading the way for the Owls. Murphy racked up five assists in game one against the Hurricanes, on five of the six goals. He stayed hot the next day with a goal and three more assists for a nine-point weekend.
Murphy’s production was much needed for the Owls, with several key players not suiting up for the series against the ‘Canes. If Murphy continues this torrential pace when the players return, FAU could be a serious contender in the Southeast Division 2 region.
3rd Star - Leon Biller, Florida Atlantic University (M2): 5 Goals, 1 Assist, 6 Points in 2 Games Played
Staying in Boca, multiple FAU Owls found the scoresheet this weekend. It was a high-scoring weekend for them, with 14 goals over two games.
Five of those goals come from our third star this week, Leon Biller. Biller found the back of the net five times over the two-game series, including a hat trick in game one. Biller remained successful in game two, scoring two more goals and adding an assist, ending his weekend with six points over two games.
The Owls look to stay on top, as they lead the M2 division in the conference with 9 points.
Congratulations to BJ Riccardi, Jake Murphy and Leon Biller for earning honors as College Hockey South’s Three Stars of Week 14!
