This week in College Hockey South, the spotlight shines on Huntsville, Alabama, as four teams battle for the 5th Annual Veterans’ Cup, presented in partnership with the Huntsville Sports Commission. With pride, hardware, and a tribute to America’s armed forces on the line, expect a fierce weekend of hockey.

Veterans’ Cup — Preliminary Round Matchups

Alabama (M3) vs Kennesaw State (M3)

Alabama opens the tournament still searching for its first CHS win of the season after a 6–1 loss to MTSU on October 26 dropped them to 0-6-0-0 in conference play. The Frozen Tide hope a neutral-site setting and tournament energy help shift momentum.

Kennesaw State arrives with an opportunity to climb above .500 in the conference standings — and they’ll be hungry to take advantage.

Game of the Week: Middle Tennessee State (M3) vs Tennessee (M3)

Round two of the in-state rivalry hits the ice Saturday night — and the stakes are elevated under the Veterans’ Cup spotlight.

MTSU currently sits tied for second in the conference in total wins and enters the tournament undefeated in CHS play. The Blue Raiders have been an offensive force, powered by forward Tommy Chunchukov, the M3 First Star of the Month, who has already racked up 14 points in conference action.

Tennessee, meanwhile, has played only one CHS game this year — a 9–0 loss to MTSU in early October. The Ice Vols will look to kick-start their offensive attack and flip the script in the rematch — but they’ll have to solve one of the hottest scoring threats in the nation.

The winners from Saturday advance to Sunday’s championship game, while the remaining teams face off in the third-place matchup.

Florida (ACDC) vs Florida State (ACDC)

Another in-state feud takes over this weekend as Florida and Florida State meet at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, home of the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen.

These teams clashed last weekend at Battle at the Beach, where FSU’s Alex Jensen — the ACDC Second Star of the Month — posted a hat-trick to lead the ‘Noles to a 5–3 win and a berth in the championship game.

Florida enters sitting first in ACDC standings, while Florida State remains tied for fourth — but with major momentum after bringing home the Beach Division title.

  • Saturday, Nov. 8 — 2:00 PM EST (VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena)

Embry-Riddle (M3) vs UCF (M3)

Two evenly matched squads collide with valuable CHS points on the line.

Both ERAU and UCF sit tied with seven CHS points, each having won three conference games. Embry-Riddle will look to rebound after slowing down following a six-game win streak, while UCF tries to spark a run at home after splitting their first four conference series.

  • Friday, Nov. 7 — 7:00 PM EST (Daytona Ice Arena)

  • Saturday, Nov. 8 — 9:00 PM EST (Orlando Ice Den)

Florida (M2) at Florida Atlantic (M2)

A massive three-game set could reshape the entire M2 division by Monday morning.

FAU and Florida split their first series of the season back in September.

In game 1, FAU claims a dominant 6–0 shutout while game 2 Florida responds with a gritty 3–1 win.

Now with each program owning five wins this season — and only three teams in the division — every point is premium. And with Tampa also playing this weekend, the division standings could flip fast.

  • Friday, Nov. 7 — 6:45 PM EST (Boca Ice)

  • Saturday, Nov. 8 — 9:45 PM EST (Boca Ice)

  • Sunday, Nov. 9 — 6:30 PM EST (Boca Ice)

Rivalry. Respect. Remembrance.

The mission of the Veterans’ Cup goes beyond the ice — honoring the brave servicemen and women who define teamwork and sacrifice at the highest level.

College Hockey South is proud to showcase a weekend where competition meets gratitude.
