Game of The Week: University of Alabama (D1) vs. University of Tennessee (D1)

The Game of the Week for Week 5 will take place in Knoxville, TN, where the Alabama Frozen Tide will compete against the Tennessee Ice Vols.

These teams will be competing in 2 games over the weekend.

The Frozen Tide are looking for their first win in nearly a month after losing their last two series. Alabama is 0-3-0-1 in their previous four games.

The Ice Vols have started the season undefeated, though they have yet to play a College Hockey South Division 1 team.

The teams will compete at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, a multi-purpose facility and arena in the greater Knoxville area.

The first game will be held this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The second game will be held this Sunday at 11:00 am. ET.

Fans can watch both games this weekend here.

Kennesaw State University (D3) vs. Georgia Institute of Technology (D2)

The Kennesaw State Owls will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Atlanta IceForum on October 4th and 5th in a two-day series of games.

The Owls series against Georgia Tech will be their first of the 2024-2025 season.

Kennesaw State’s season ended last year when they failed to advance out of pool play at the Division 3 AAU National Championship.

The Yellow Jackets are looking for their first win after their recent 3-2 defeat against UCF on Saturday, September 21, and their 6-3 defeat against Auburn University on Friday, September 27.

It will be intriguing to see who wins, with the Owls eager for a strong win to kick off their season and the Yellow Jackets eager for redemption.

The first game will be held this Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The second game will be held this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (D2) vs. University of Tampa (D2)

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) will dual against the University of Tampa in a home-and-home series of games on October 4th and 5th this weekend.

Embry-Riddle will host the first game, and Tampa will be home for the second.

This recent weekend, the ERAU Eagles returned home after winning the Burning Leaves Tournament for a 2nd year in a row. The Burning Leaves Tournament was hosted by Paul Smith’s College in Lake Placid, NY.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, their weekend games on Sept 27 and 28 were canceled due to the inclement weather concerning what was then called Tropical Storm Helene and is now recognized as Hurricane Helene.

With last week’s games canceled, the Spartans look forward to returning to the rink this weekend.

The first game will be held this Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET at Daytona Ice Area.

The second game will be held this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET at Clearwater Ice Arena.

University of Miami (W) vs. University of South Florida (W)

The University of South Florida and the University of Miami’s women’s hockey teams were supposed to play their first games of the season at the Columbus Classic on September 27-29. However, the tournament had to be canceled due to Hurricane Helene.

Bella Buontempo, president of the University of South Florida women’s hockey team, is looking forward to this game.

“I’m feeling really confident about the games this weekend. We had a few close games against Miami last year and we’ve only gained more skill and ability since then so I’m really excited to showcase the talent we have on our roster this year,” Buontempo said.

Both teams are in the same situation, so they are equally motivated to win their initial game and claim their first victory of the season.

The first game will be held this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The second game will be held this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Georgia Southern University (D3) vs University of Georgia (D3)

A first-time-ever in-state matchup wraps up our weekend when the Georgia Southern Eagles take on the Georgia Ice Dawgs.

Georgia Southern has had two teams join College Hockey South for this season. The Eagles' Women’s Division team made its debut on September 8th, losing 7-5 to Auburn. The Men’s team hopes to have better luck in their debut against the Ice Dawgs.

The University of Georgia Ice Dawgs' most recent games were against the University of Alabama on September 27 and 29. In their first game against Alabama, they won 4-1, and in their second game, they lost 7-0. Fans are intrigued to see their results for this week.

This game will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
