2024-25 Season Week 4 Preview

Several games, including the 2024 Columbus Classic, have been canceled or postponed due to Hurricane Helene. At College Hockey South, we hope everyone stays safe as the weather passes through the Southeast.

Even with 19 games and counting canceled, there are still plenty of good matchups on the docket for this weekend, and here is a look at a select few:

Game of the Week: Florida Southern College Mocs (D2) @ University of Central Florida Knights (D2)

The Florida Southern Mocs are gearing up for the College Hockey South Game of the Week against the University of Central Florida Knights this Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Orlando Ice Den.

Florida Southern started 1-1-0 in their first two games of the season. The Mocs look to bounce back after a 9-2 blowout loss to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Will Marshall leads the Mocs with three goals and five points in just two games.

UCF, on the other hand, has been red hot, winning three of its first four games. Colin Jackson leads the Knights in goals with two, while Jacob Graziotti leads the team in points with four.

This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

The Game of the Week puck drop is at 9:00 p.m EST at the Orlando Ice Den in Orlando, FL. Fans can watch the game here on DSPN Live.

University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (D3) @ Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders (D2)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers will play their first ever College Hockey South games in a weekend series against the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders. The Blazers join the suddenly crowded Division 3 North Division, though they will not be facing one of their division mates.

Middle Tennessee enters Friday’s game with a 2-1-1 record. Matthew Siciliano leads the Blue Raiders with six goals, while Ethan Demumbrum leads the team in assists with seven and points with twelve.

Game one puck drop will be Friday, September 27 at 8:45 p.m CST.

Game two puck drop will be Saturday, September 28 at 8:45 p.m CST.

Both games will be played at the Ford Ice Center in Antioch, TN.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (D2) @ Auburn University Tigers (D1)

Georgia Tech looks to end their four-game losing streak as they wrap up their road trip against the Auburn Tigers. Their last outing was a 3-2 loss to the University of Central Florida Knights. Paul Molnar and Jack Gawlik both scored for the Yellow Jackets in the loss.

Auburn, meanwhile, is searching for their first win of the season, going 0-2-0 to start. They lost two straight games to the University of Tampa Spartans, including a grueling 15-0 shutout loss.

Cullen Dorcas leads Georgia Tech in goals (2), assists (2), and points (4). On the other hand, Callen Daily leads Auburn in goals (1), Joshua Hockey in assists (1), and Ryan Good in points (2).

Both teams are meeting for the first and only time this season.

Puck drop will be Friday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Friday night's game will be played at the Columbus Ice Rink in Columbus, Georgia.

University of Georgia Ice Dawgs (D1) @ University of Alabama Frozen Tide (D1)

Before the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide tussle on the gridiron Saturday night, the Ice Dawgs and Frozen Tide set the stage Friday night in a College Hockey South Division 1 conference clash.

So forget about that football game in Tuscaloosa at Bryant-Denny Stadium and get ready for some heated college hockey in Pelham, AL, between two storied rivals.

The Ice Dawgs continue their road march to begin the 2024-2025 season. This will be Georgia’s third consecutive weekend on the road after making previous stops at South Carolina and Florida. Georgia’s home schedule will begin next weekend with a series against Auburn.

Georgia began the season with a 4-3 shootout loss* against the defending National Champion South Carolina Gamecocks, in which the Ice Dawgs squandered a three-goal lead. The Ice Dawgs then emphatically swept a weekend series against the rival Florida Gators by 6-1 and 7-5 scores.

Alabama hopes to atone for the poor showing last weekend when South Carolina thrashed them twice. The Gamecocks outscored the Tide 17-2 in the two games.

The Frozen Tide’s record sits at 2-2 after they started the season with consecutive wins over in-state rival Alabama-Huntsville.

Game one puck drop will be Friday, September 27 at 9:45 p.m CST.

Game two puck drop will be Sunday, September 29 at 5:15 p.m CST.

Both games will be played at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena in Pelham, Alabama.

*Shootout wins/losses are not recognized by AAU College Hockey. If no goal is scored in overtime, the game will go in the official standings as a tie.

Austin Peay State University Governors (D3) @ University of Tennessee Ice Vols (D3)

After making an emphatic College Hockey South debut, Austin Peay looks to deliver a solid sophomore performance against in-state rival Tennessee.

The Governors burst onto the scene with an eye-catching series victory over Eastern Kentucky a week ago. Austin Peay tallied 13 goals in two games against the Colonels, and leading scorer Brendan Sullivan was named the first star of the week by College Hockey South.

The Division 3 Ice Vols' season premiere will be the pair of games against the Governors. Tennessee finished fourth in the standings and third in the conference tournament a year ago.

Miami and Florida Southern, the teams that finished first and second in Division 3 last season, respectively, have been promoted to Division 2 this season. This could put Tennessee at the top of the list of favorites to win this year's conference.

Game one puck drop will be Friday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m EST.

Game two puck drop will be Saturday, September 28 at 9:00 p.m EST.

Both games will be played at the Cool Sports IceArium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
