Between three split series, two weekend sweeps, and two teams scoring twenty goals in two games, week 9 was an eventful weekend in College Hockey South.
Game of the Week: University of Tampa (D1) vs. University of South Carolina (D1)
The Tampa Spartans scored a measure of revenge over South Carolina after the Gamecocks eliminated them in the National Semifinal last season.
An evenly matched series between two Division 1 powerhouses resulted in a 3-2 Spartan victory in game one and a 4-4 deadlock in game two.
In game one, the Spartans’ offense came into the first rolling. All three of their goals came during the opening frame, including one from Division 1’s second star of October, Nicholas Fontaine (89).
Despite Carson Skove (18) and Marco Pineda (9) scoring powerplay goals in the second and third, the Gamecocks could not complete the comeback.
Game two was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Each team held a lead at one point.
Brendan Flaherty (3) got the Gamecocks on the board first with a powerplay goal; however, Tampa scored the next three.
During the second period, Nicholas Fontaine (89) scored twice to give the Spartans a 4-2 lead going into the third.
The Gamecocks did not go away without a fight, with goals from Nick Kaye (10) and Jake Puskar (8) scoring within three minutes of each other to tie the game at four.
Neither team could score in overtime, ending the game with a tie.

The reigning College Hockey South champion Tampa Lady Spartans continued their dominance from last season by sweeping their two-game series against the University of Miami Hurricanes.
The Spartans dominated both games, scoring 20 goals in total. Game one resulted in a 9-2 victory, while they completed an 11-0 shutout in game two.
Ava Johnson (16) and Molly Braga (10) led the way for the Spartans with six points each. In game one of the series, Johnson had four goals, while Braga had a hat trick.
The Spartans held the Hurricanes to 21 shots on goal during the series. Claire Kurek (28) earned the shutout in the second game.

Jayden Price (27) and Owen Foster (37) had two goals in the Owl’s 9-2 victory in game one.
In game two, Ethan Goins (45) opened the scoring for the Govs in the second period, but the Owls offense quickly responded with three goals.
The Owls scored eight goals in the third to end the game with an 11-2 victory.
University of Mississippi (D2) vs. Georgia Institute of Technology (D2)
The Ole Miss Ice Rebels and Georgia Institute of Technology Yellow Jackets split their weekend series. The Yellow Jackets won game one 4-2, while the Ice Rebels bounced back to win game two 7-2.
The Yellow Jackets got a hot start in game one, with all four goals coming in the first period.
The Ice Rebels looked to come back in the second with two goals of their own, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold them off. Yellow Jacket goaltender Brendan Germano (32) saved 40 of the 42 shots he faced in net.
Game two followed a different storyline. The Ice Rebels scored the first five goals. The Yellow Jackets tried to reverse the damage but ran out of time.
Quinn Moses (20) and Jackson Heim (12) scored two goals each in the victory.
University of Tampa (D2) vs. Florida Southern College (D2)
The Spartans and Mocs each took one game of their home-and-home series.
The Spartans’ offense shines in game one of the series, resulting in an 18-3 victory.
Seventeen players registered a point, and thirteen scored throughout the game, including a hat trick from Bryce Krause (88). Tyler Hoffberg (86), Sean Joyce (43), and Trace Coward (22) each scored two goals apiece, while Reagan Lyon (28) had five points on the night.
The Spartans outshot the Mocs 56-31 en route to the lopsided win.
Game two was a closer matchup, with the Mocs squeezing out a 3-2 win.
Despite the victory, the dynamic duo of Michael Woll (93) and Will Marshall (19) were the only Mocs on the scoreboard. Woll scored twice in the matchup, including the game-winning goal in the third period. Both Woll and Marshall have 23 points on the season following the series.
