Week 6 | 3 Stars of the Week

Despite Hurricane Milton canceling some of this week’s matchups, several players put on a show to lead their teams to victory.

1st Star: John Riggins - University of South Carolina (D1): 3 goals, 5 assists, 8 points in 2 games

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks dominated their weekend series against the Auburn University Tigers, sweeping the two-game series. Friday’s game one ended 7-3, while game two resulted in a 6-1 victory.

“This weekend was just a great weekend of home games and playing with the energy of our crowd,” John Riggins said. “It’s always great to play home games, and we respond well to the atmosphere.

Riggins led the team with four points in each game, highlighted by a hat trick in game one.

Eight players lit the lamp, while 13 collected points during the weekend.

“We have been focusing on playing consistent hockey, and for the most part of this year, we have achieved that,” Riggins said. “It’s the same for me personally where I am just focused on playing consistent hockey a period at a time.”

2nd Star: Philip Bermingham - University of Mississippi (D3): 3 goals, 3 assists, 6 points in 2 games

The University of Mississippi Rebels swept their weekend series against Austin Peay State University. After winning game one 5-3, the Rebels dominated game two 10-4.

Philip Bermingham had three points in both matchups --two goals and one assist in the first game and one goal and two assists in the second. Bermingham’s first goal of the weekend went unassisted.

Bermingham said, “All the credit goes to my teammates and coaches for helping prepare me and the team for the games this weekend.”

Through four games this season, Bermingham leads the Rebels offense with eight points.

“This was a great momentum builder for the rest of the season, and hopefully the boys can keep rolling,” Bermingham said.

3rd Star: Carson Skove - University of South Carolina (D1): 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points in 2 games

The Gamecocks dominated on offense, outshooting the Tigers 74-38 across the series. With the offensive firepower of this South Carolina team, another Gamecock had a standout performance. Forward Carson Skove scored one goal and assisted on five others.

“Those two guys [Riggins and Skove] have been a huge part of why we are having success so far this season,” South Carolina head coach Allan Sirois said. “Their hard work and skills were once again seen this weekend.”

Skove had four points, one goal, and three assists during Friday’s matchup. Skove’s lone goal was the game-winner.

The Gamecocks will look to continue this momentum as they take on the University of Florida Gators on the road this weekend in a two-game series.

“We are going to build off of this and take what we thought we did best and apply it to every game down the road,” Skove said.

Honorable Mention: Drew Durdov - University of South Carolina (D3): 2 wins, 92/94 shots saved, 1.00 goals against average, 0.978 save percentage in 2 games.
