Week 8 of the College Hockey South season is officially in the books, and it was an electric one—highlighted by three standout performances that lit up the scoresheets across the league.
1st Star - Nina Molina, Clemson University (Women’s) - 9 Goals, 4 Assists, 13 Points in 2 Games Played
If you don’t know the name Nina Molina by now, you haven’t been paying attention. The Clemson Tigers have pounced on every opponent in their path during their inaugural season, and Molina has led the charge offensively.
Molina powered the Tigers to a dominant series sweep, spoiling Georgia Southern’s opening weekend and earning her second First Star of the Week honor this season. In the opener, she notched a hat trick and two assists in a 19–1 rout.
She followed that up with another remarkable performance, finding the back of the net six times in Game 2—yes, two hat tricks in one game—and added two more assists to her weekend total. The Tigers closed the weekend with a 14–0 victory, leaving yet another opponent searching for answers against the undefeated Clemson squad.
2nd Star - Claire Carson, University of Alabama (Women’s) - 5 Goals, 6 Assists, 11 Points in 2 Games Played
Last season’s Women’s Division MVP is back in midseason form. Claire Carson returned to the spotlight this weekend, leading the Alabama Frozen Tide to a commanding two-game sweep of Tennessee on home ice.
Carson started the weekend with two goals and two assists in a 7–0 shutout win. In Game 2, she elevated her play even further—recording four goals and four assists in an explosive offensive showcase. With Carson leading the charge, Alabama is hitting its stride at the right time and looks poised to make another deep postseason run.
3rd Star - Greg Pelini, Jacksonville University (ACDC) - 4 Goals, 2 Assists, 6 Points in 2 Games Played
Making his first appearance among the Three Stars, Greg Pelini helped power the Jacksonville University Dolphins in an exciting River City Rumble series against North Florida.
In the opening game, Pelini put on an offensive clinic, recording a hat trick—including the game-winner with just over nine minutes remaining in the third period. He also added an assist on the game’s opening goal to his brother, James Pelini, showcasing the family connection on the ice.
Game 2 was a tighter defensive battle, but Greg continued to make an impact, scoring once more and adding an assist as the Dolphins split the weekend series. His leadership and scoring touch continue to prove why Jacksonville is a serious contender in its first College Hockey South season.
Congratulations to Nina Molina, Claire Carson and Greg Pelini for earning honors as College Hockey South’s Three Stars of Week 8!
