Week 6 of College Hockey South action brought high-intensity rivalries, conference debuts, and statement performances across the region. From dominant sweeps in Tampa Bay to first-time victories in Lakeland, teams are starting to shape their postseason identities as the season heats up. Here’s a full look at how the weekend unfolded across the South.
Game of the Week: South Florida (M3) at Florida Gulf Coast (M3)
The University of South Florida Ice Bulls clipped the wings of the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles in FGCU’s first College Hockey South matchup. The Ice Bulls swept the Eagles with 5-2 and 3-1 wins to improve to 6-1-1.
Grant Diettz led the Ice Bulls in scoring in the first game, scoring two of the five goals in the win. The second game of the series was defined by defense, until the Ice Bulls rattled off three third-period goals to complete the sweep.
The Ice Bulls travel to Palm Beach to face the Lynn University Fighting Knights, looking to gain more points on their way to the CHS playoffs. The FGCU Eagles will look to bounce back with a home series against the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Tampa (M2) at Tennessee (M2)
The University of Tampa Spartans traveled to Rocky Top to face the University of Tennessee Ice Vols. The Ice Vols handed the Spartans their second loss of the season, but Tampa got its revenge in the second game of the series.
Missing key players in Game 1, the Ice Vols shut down the Spartans' offense, holding them to one goal. This is the first time the Spartans have only scored once in a game this season. Tampa scored a combined 23 goals in three meetings with FAU last weekend, so a mere one goal was disappointing for the Spartans.
Tampa didn’t waste any time atoning for its lack of offense, scoring five times to take down the Ice Vols 5-1, and earn the series split.
The Spartans will be on the road for their next series, taking on the Division 2 ACHA National Champion Lindenwood University in their third out-of-conference series.
Tampa (W) at South Florida (W)
The University of Tampa Spartans demonstrated their dominance over Tampa Bay with a sweep of the USF Lady Bulls. The Spartans took the series with 11-1 and 9-2 victories, remaining undefeated against CHS opponents.
It was a complete team effort in the first game, with nine different goal scorers contributing to the Spartans' 11-1 win. Their goal scoring didn’t stop with the Spartans keeping their foot on the gas, with another team effort to be crowned the queens of Tampa Bay.
Both teams will have an off week before taking on the University of Florida on October 25th in a doubleheader.
Florida Southern (M3) vs. Jacksonville (ACDC)
The Florida Southern Mocassins found themselves back in the win column with a series sweep of the Jacksonville University Dolphins. The Mocs won the first game 5-3 and closed the series with a 5-4 win.
The Mocs and Dolphins played back-and-forth in the first game, but the Mocs came out on top thanks to a breakaway goal by sophomore Colton Widen, which gave them a 5-3 lead with two minutes left in the game. The second game continued to be a battle like the first, with the Mocs pulling away late in the third with Hunter Rice scoring the winner to complete the sweep.
Florida Southern will have a month off before returning to home ice against the Florida Tech Panthers. Meanwhile, the Dolphins will have a battle of Jacksonville on their hands, taking on the University of North Florida at the Community First Igloo on October 24th and 25th.

As teams settle into the heart of the season, the standings continue to tighten across every division. With rivalry matchups, first-time conference battles, and statement wins defining Week 6, momentum is building ahead of one of the CHS’s biggest events — the Battle at the Beach Tournament.
