Winter weather couldn’t stop all the College Hockey South matchups this week, with multiple must-watch series going on in week 16!
Game of the Week: Embry-Riddle (M3) vs UCF (M3)
The No. 8 ERAU Ice Eagles took on the No.10 UCF Knights in a battle for playoff positioning. The Ice Eagles took the first game on home ice with a strong defensive performance, allowing only 2 goals in a 5-2 win.
The series flipped to Orlando, where the Knights found their offensive game with five different goal scorers in a 6-3 win, four of the goals coming in the first period. Home ice proved to be the difference-maker in this series, with a split that helped both teams maintain playoff positions, with only a few weeks left before the CHS playoffs.
Florida State Seminoles (W) vs South Florida Ice Bulls (W)
The Seminoles continued to search for their first win in a trip to Tampa Bay to run with the Ice Bulls. The Bulls continued to make their push for the playoffs in the South Division.
USF took the first game 7-4, showing off the scoring prowess we have seen from the Ice Bulls all season. The offense continued rolling, taking the second game 8-4. The Bulls will look to continue the offensive momentum in the Gasparilla Showcase this week.
Florida Atlantic Owls (M2) vs Farmingdale State Rams (M2)
The No. 9 SE Owls traded the beaches for snow-covered streets, making the trip to Long Island, New York, for a series against last year's nationals runner-up, No.2 NE Farmingdale State Rams.
Game one of the series was evenly matched between the two sides, with Jackson Nieuwendyk recording four goals. The Rams got the edge in a shootout to take game one of the series. The Owls responded in game two in a tight defensive game, with Jackson Nieuwendyk scoring the overtime winner.
The third game of the series was cancelled due to the winter weather in New York, making the Owls grateful they play hockey in sunny South Florida.
Tampa Spartans (M2) at South Florida Ice Bulls (M3)
Two high-powered offenses faced off in a highly anticipated matchup. The Spartans showed why they are playing in the M2 division with a dominant 9-1 victory. The Ice Bulls were missing Grant Dietz, who leads the team in scoring and also penalty minutes, due to a game misconduct and a DQ against the FAU Owls.
Tampa started off a busy weekend against one of the top teams in the M3 division with a victory, with many victories needed over the weekend.
