The Tampa Lady Spartans won the inaugural Columbus Classic a year ago, defeating all three opponents to win the 2023 College Hockey South kickoff event. The addition of two new teams should ratchet up the level of competition this year.
The defending champions' team president, Annaka Gendron, said about the second-ever Columbus Classic: “I think last year we got all the quirks out, and we’ve got a few new girls coming in, but I think this year we know how we play together and who compliments each other well.”
Not only were teams added to the Columbus Classic, but College Hockey South has also expanded the number of Women’s division teams from six to ten with the addition of University of Alabama, Georgia Southern University, University of Oklahoma and University of Tennessee.
Gendron spoke about the growth of College Hockey South’s Women’s division, “It’s just exciting to see how quickly we are adding more schools and having more competition and travel. It sounds like the start of a fun year!"
