Women’s college hockey returns to Columbus, GA, for an exciting weekend tournament featuring six College Hockey South teams.
The three-day event was initially scheduled for the final weekend of September but was canceled due to Hurricane Helene. Five of the six teams slated to play in September have committed to the new date. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, South Carolina could not participate.
The field will consist of the four teams that competed in the inaugural Columbus Classic last year: Auburn University, the University of Georgia, the University of South Florida, and the University of Tampa; new to the tournament this year are the University of Miami and the University of Alabama.

The Tampa Lady Spartans won the inaugural Columbus Classic a year ago, defeating all three opponents to win the 2023 College Hockey South kickoff event. The addition of two new teams should ratchet up the level of competition this year.
The defending champions' team president, Annaka Gendron, said about the second-ever Columbus Classic: “I think last year we got all the quirks out, and we’ve got a few new girls coming in, but I think this year we know how we play together and who compliments each other well,”.
Not only were teams added to the Columbus Classic, but College Hockey South has also expanded the number of Women’s division teams from six to ten.
Gendron spoke about the growth of College Hockey South’s Women’s division, “It’s just exciting to see how quickly we are adding more schools and having more competition and travel. It sounds like the start of a fun year!”.
