2024-25 Season Week 13 Preview

Happy New Year, hockey fans! We hope you’re well rested after the winter break because the final weeks of the College Hockey South regular season will be a wild ride.

Game of the Week: Florida State University (D3) at Florida Atlantic University (D3)

The Florida Atlantic University Ice Owls (D3) are looking to build off a strong inaugural semester as they host the Florida State University Seminoles in a two-game series to open up the spring semester.

Game 1 is Friday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m., while game 2 is Saturday, Jan. 11, at 5:00 p.m. Both games will take place at Boca Ice Rink.

The Ice Owls have a 9-1-0 (8-0-0, 16 points) record, with their only loss coming in mid-October.

Each of the top three scorers in Division 3 come from FAU. Ayden Georgiano (77) has 32 points, Christian Cuccia (27) has 31 points, and Joseph Lozoraitis (5) has 27 points.

The Seminoles are led by Alexander Jensen (36) with 14 points in 11 games. Daniil Bogdanov (29) has scored at a higher rate, though, with 13 points in seven games.

University of Miami (D2) vs Lynn University (D2)

After losing a matchup in late September, the University of Miami Hurricanes seek revenge against Lynn University this weekend.

The last matchup resulted in a 6-3 victory for the Knights.

The Hurricanes come into the semester with a record of 4-10-0 (3-6-0-1, 7 points) and are ranked sixth in the Division 2 South Division. The Fighting Knights are third in the South Division with a 7-6-1 record (5-2-1-1, 12 points).

Lynn University’s offense has been led by Lucca Vicino (8) and Mason Moree (14) this season. Both Vicino and Moree have racked up 21 points this season.

Lynn hopes that the winter break doesn’t help continue the cold streak the Fighting Knights are on. Lynn closed the fall semester with one win in their last six games.

Elian Estulin (20) leads the Hurricanes with 15 points. Miami will need to make up ground in the final weeks of the regular season, as the ‘Canes are currently out of the Division 2 playoff picture.

Game 1 is Saturday, Jan. 11, at 8:00 p.m. at Kendall Ice Arena. Game 2 is the following day at 7:00 p.m. at Palm Beach Skate Zone Rink #1.

University of Georgia (W) vs. Georgia Southern University (W)

Georgia Southern women’s hockey team is looking for their first win of their inaugural season as they take on the University of Georgia Lady Ice Dawgs this weekend in a home-and-home series.

Game 1 will occur Saturday, Jan. 11,  at 4:30 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center, while Game 2 will be held at Akins Ford Arena in Athens, GA at 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Ice Dawgs ended last semester sixth in College Hockey South Women's division rankings with an overall record of 3-6-0.

Through the fall semester, Paige Oukes led Georgia with 25 total points, 20 of which were goals.

Clemson University (D2) at University of Alabama-Huntsville (D2)

The Clemson University Tigers will suit up for the first time this season against the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in a two-game series.

The Chargers are still looking to win their first game of the season after going 0-12-0 (0-6-0, 0 points) last semester. They are currently ranked sixth in the Division 2 North Division.

Offense has been a struggle this season for the Chargers. Through twelve games, the team has scored nine goals. Tyler Trombly (91) has one goal and three assists to lead the team.

Game 1 will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2:00 p.m., and game 2 on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 12:00 p.m. All three games will take place at Ice Station.
